A related type of internet security technology that can also be used with computers that are shared with other people is often referred to as e-mail filtering. In this form of protection, a computer network is set up such that if a message is e-mailed to a user’s electronic mail account it will only be forwarded to the intended recipient. This ensures that the message will not get passed to an unauthorised individual. Many small businesses that engage in instant messaging often rely on this form of protection for the confidentiality of their business communications.
Ensuring the continued integrity of the global network is vital for all computer systems administrators and small business owners. With the threat of terrorism and other attacks on computer systems ever present, the need to secure sensitive personal and financial data cannot be overemphasized. All of the aforementioned Internet security policies are in place in order to provide a degree of security that will make it possible for organizations to work productively. These policies do not provide an overall level of protection against viruses, worms or other forms of malware, but they do help to limit the damage that these potential contaminants may cause.
